PT-15

We are now at the Fort Worden site, looking at what was known as Battery Kinsey. Fort Worden was built in the 1800's, along with it's sister installation, Fort Casey, which is located on Whidbey Island. These two forts were built for the protection of the Puget Sound in time of war. Luckily, no shots were ever fired in anger, but there was plenty of firepower here if it was needed. During World War II, a submarine net was strung between Fort Worden and Fort Casey to intercept Japanese submarines that might try to get into the Puget Sound. Battery Kinsey is the best preserved example of how stark and boring this kind of duty could be. The historical park is very interesting, and could fill up a day for most visitors.
